Something fishy is going on with Best Buy when it comes to the midnight launch of Switch 2, and we’re left wondering what exactly is going on.
Last night, Best Buy randomly updated their website to let customers know that the midnight launch of Switch 2 was going to offer something a little extra, and that included something for those without pre-orders as well. According to the listing, Best Buy said that “most stores will have limited inventory of systems, games and accessories for purchase.” To be clear, this was inventory outside of those who’ve already pre-ordered.
The listing also included another interesting tidbit, mentioning that customers would have the chance to pick up a “free Nintendo collectible.” The listing gave absolutely no insight as to what this collectible would be, but now it seems the whole thing might be called off anyway.
Best Buy has since updated their Switch 2 splash page once more, and all the information mentioned above has been scrubbed. There’s no explanation as to why it was there in the first place, and the same goes for its removal. We’re reaching out to Best Buy to try to get comment on the matter, and we’ll keep you posted if/when they have anything to share.
UPDATE: Making things even more confusing, the message that Best Buy added and then removed from their website has now been added to the official app. You can see the screenshot below, which points to the midnight launch having Switch 2 consoles and more beyond pre-orders.
UPDATE: Best Buy has finally revealed what their free collectible will be, and it’s the above commemorative coin. It seems those who attend the midnight launch to pick up their Switch 2 pre-order or purchase the system will have a chance to snag this coin, but as you’d expect, inventory is limited.
