GEX Trilogy reproduces all three original GEX games in exacting detail, precisely the way you remember them. Assuming you’ve gone senile and remember them having high-definition native 16:9 widescreen visuals and fully analog controls. Which they didn’t. No, this is the Gex series the way it was meant to be played…well, on Switch anyway.
While you can pick up GEX Trilogy on Switch right now, playing it on Switch 2 might be a bit of a gamble. The package does indeed work on Switch 2, but not completely as intended. According to Limited Run Games, players might run into a few backwards compatibility issues during play sessions. The good news is that a fix should be dropping any day now.
Limited Run Games said they submitted a patch for GEX Trilogy that addresses Switch 2 issues, and it was sent off to Nintendo for “several days” now. LRG also says that the patch will be launching “really soon,” so it doesn’t sound like you’ll be struggling with setbacks for much longer. As soon as the patch goes live, we’ll be sure to let you know.
UPDATE 6/19: While the Switch 2 firmware update has fixed compatibility issues with the vast majority of LRG’s Carbon Engine games, GEX Trilogy is still struggling. As mentioned above, LRG submitted a separate patch to fix up the issues, but they’re still waiting for it to be cleared by Nintendo. They expect to see the patch go live early next week. In the meantime, LRG have asked Nintendo to remove GEX Trilogy from the Switch 2 eShop.
