Pokémon fan gets the Pope to sign a Popplio card

Pope Leo XIV recently took on the position, and he made quite the headlines by doing so. Obviously we didn’t haven’t had any reason to talk about the man here on GoNintendo, but it turns out it was just a matter of time.

As part of the Jubilee Year celebrations, Pope Leo XIV recently met with visitors from throughout Europe. That included a group from the Diocese of Copenhagen in Denmark, which is where Redditor ReptileCake comes into play. During the event, the Pope was taking items from visitors to sign/bless them, and ReptileCake chose something truly unique.

Believe it or not, ReptileCake asked the Pope to sign his Reverse Holo Popplio card. Why did ReptileCake choose this card as his item? Well, according to the man himself, Pope Leo and Popplio sound pretty similar as far as names go, so ReptileCake thought the Pokémon card would be an appropriate pick.

ReptileCake obviously had his request granted, as you can see in the image at the top of this post. Of course, the news of this signed card brought it tons of requests from collectors looking to purchase, but ReptileCake says he’ll “never get rid of the card,” saying he’ll “cherish it” from here on out.
