Untitled Hand Game: Titled Edition Review – Fumbling Fingers

Untitled Hand Game: Titled Edition by OtterSea Studio

In Untitled Hand Game: Titled Edition, you control an arm. The goal is to pick up the correct objects and deliver them to the hands on the right side of the screen. It can get tricky, as the waiting hands go away after a short time, so you have to deliver the objects as quickly as possible. Miss three hands and you have to start the stage over again.

A Real Handful

The game’s physics system makes things tricky. Unwanted objects in your way, which means you have to either move them with your hand or grab and drop them somewhere else. This is where a lot of the challenge comes into play, as each stage has many objects stacked on top of each other.

Untitled Hand Game doesn’t get more complex than this core mechanic, although it does mix things up with random factors like altered gravity and even turning the screen upside down. These variations are welcome, and I wish there were more of them.

The game does feature an endless mode for those looking for more of a challenge and a harder “panic mode” for masochists, but these don’t really add much or make the game more interesting.

Empty-Handed

In fact, I wish the game had more in general. More stages mixing up the core mechanic would go a long way toward making things more enjoyable. I would have even welcomed a wacky or weird narrative to go along with it.

It’s disappointing because there’s potential to expand upon its simple yet solid core gameplay conceit.

Visually, Untitled Hand Game sports a simple cartoon-inspired style, with objects easily distinguishable and fitting each stage well. The nicely detailed background art featured in each stage is the best aspect; my favorite stage is a bedroom decorated with posters. I wish the game had more detailed spaces like this.

Groovy synth beats alongside retro tones make for a nice ambient soundtrack that makes each stage feel more inviting without being a distraction. Each level has its own track, which is a nice touch, and the score overall enhances the game’s science fiction undertones.

The Verdict:

Untitled Hand Game: Titled Edition ultimately disappoints. It’s a short, chill experience that could have been so much more if it were fleshed out with additional stages or creative alterations to its core gameplay.

Untitled Hand Game: Titled Edition is available via Steam.
