What Is The Mandrake?
The Mandrake is plant-like entity found in the Outdoors section of Doors. When inactive, this creature resembles a small plant sticking partially out of the ground. (Like the image above!) As you get close, the Mandrake will leap out of the ground at a player, and start screaming. The scream will harm the player character, causing the screen to get progressively darker. A few seconds of this and that’s it, you’ll fall over dead.
Not all plants erupt into Mandrakes when stepped on, but you should be wary of any small sprouts near the path and treat them as a Mandrake unless you have a reason to believe otherwise.
How To Deal With Mandrake
The easiest way to handle the Mandrake is to avoid activating one. Stay away from any plants that resemble one in its inactive state.
If you do activate one, there are a few different potential approaches.
- Run away. The Mandrake is still attached to the ground. You should be able to get away from it. This is our least preferred method however, as it’s risky.
- Plant the Mandrake again. Take the Mandrake and return it to the hole it popped out of. When you walk up to the hole while holding it, you will drop the Mandrake inside.
- Find a Groundskeeper. If a Groundskeeper is active in the area, turn in his direction and head over (staying off the grass). The Groundskeeper will approach any active Mandrake and take it out using his scythe.
