The original Switch is one of the biggest juggernauts Nintendo has ever seen, and it continues to move millions of units to this day. While Nintendo will continue to support the Switch, their main focus has now shifted over to Switch 2. The successor platform shot out of the gate with major support from consumers, making it the fastest-selling game platform of all-time. This has obviously turned some heads, and that includes top brass at Capcom. (h/t Stealth40k)
Nikkei had a chat with Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto about a number of topics, and the Switch 2 came up at one point. Tsujimoto was very straightforward about the Switch 2’s market penetration right now, saying that the consumer reaction so far as been bigger than what Capcom had predicted.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was released in June 2025 at a price of 49,980 yen (tax included), and the response was better than we had expected. While prices vary by country, this reaffirmed the high level of cost-consciousness among ordinary consumers.

It’s important to note that the bulk of this interview was about Monster Hunter Wilds. The game has sold 10+ million units so far, but Capcom wants to build on that. This led to Tsujimoto saying that the PS5 price has been a barrier for entry, one that’s larger than Capcom anticipated. Capcom’s president went on to say that when you take the hardware price, add in software costs and monthly subscriptions, things add up very quickly.
Tsujimoto went on to say that the company’s next challenge is to overcome these obstacles and get Monster Hunter Wilds to as many people as possible. Capcom is looking to enact some sales to boost interest, but with Tsujimoto’s comments on Switch 2 success and PS5 woes, you have to at least wonder if Capcom is seeing just how feasible a Switch 2 port of Monster Hunter Wilds would be.
