Just like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the Nintendo Switch 2 is revisiting beloved titles and giving them some TLC. We don’t just mean a few extra levels or cosmetics, but full-on Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades you don’t want to miss out on. With Zelda already getting its makeover, the time is coming for Mario to get some love, too. But what other upgrades are coming out of the recent Nintendo Direct?
After weeks of rumors, we finally have a new Nintendo Direct to get stuck into, and it’s a wicked one. There are loads of announcements to cover, but luckily for you, you can check out our full, extensive Nintendo Direct roundup for those. For me, though, arguably the real highlights are the five new Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades confirmed to land on our dashboards. Kicking them off is Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park (yes, that’s the full title) is launching in Spring 2026. The full details of what this upgrade offers are under wraps right now, as Nintendo promises to lift the lid on them closer to launch. We do see that Bellabel Park is a brand-new area on the main map introduced with the expansion.
You’ll find challenges like a coin-collecting race, a Smash Bros.-style brawl where players toss items to knock out opponents, and even a clever twist on tag that plays like Prop Hunt, letting you disguise yourself within the stage. On top of competitive modes, Bellabel Park also features co-op activities. These include building platforms to help teammates progress, or rhythm-based stages where you’ll need to jump in sync with the beat to move forward. However, for eagle-eyed fans, you may notice that the fresh footage shows off a Bellabel Flower power-up we haven’t seen before.
Joining Mario is One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. The next-gen release expands the swashbuckling world of One Piece to more platforms, giving fans the chance to experience Monkey D. Luffy’s journey with upgraded visuals, larger-scale battles packed with enemies, and an expanded roster that adds 18 new playable characters through DLC. We’re keen to check this one out.
Shifting from the sea to the kitchen, Overcooked 2 is next to get an upgrade. I can already feel the tension, the laughs, and the blunders waiting to happen with this one. There aren’t many friends who can make me and my friends fall out amicably, but this is one of them. Surprisingly, this is one of the more impressive Switch 2 Edition packages for players to grab.
You can expect enhanced visuals, 4K 60FPS performance when docked, and new ways to experience the chaos with Camera Play and Game Share. To top it off, a brand-new Platinum Platypus Chef joins the roster. The next one is big: Stardew Valley. A must-have for any cozy game lover, four and eight-player multiplayer is a major talking point for this version of Stardew Valley. It also includes mouse controls and the option to share the game with three players through GameShare if they don’t own it.
Lastly, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Human Fall Flat packs in every current and future level, from new worlds like Dockyard, Museum, Hike, and Candyland to classics like Castle, Aztec, and Water. Players can also explore surreal dreamscapes, tackle puzzles solo, or dive into 8-player online multiplayer, where teamwork and chaos collide.
So, that’s what we know from September 2025’s Nintendo Direct. There are other Switch 2 Editions to look out for already, though. If you own Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild, you can upgrade to the new versions of these RPGs for just $9.99 / £7.99 each. Even better, 12 games offer free upgrades, including Link’s Awakening, Echoes of Wisdom, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
Some titles come with paid bonuses, too. Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 Edition costs $20 and adds the new Jamboree TV feature, while Kirby and the Forgotten Land offers a $19.99 upgrade bundled with the Star-Crossed World DLC. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can even claim certain upgrades for free.
While I already have a Nintendo Switch 2, I do like knowing that people who don’t intend to pick it up just yet – perhaps even for a couple of years – have a reasonable option to upgrade some new Switch games they do buy between now and then, with other upcoming games like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond confirmed to also offer upgrades when the time comes.
