Studio Atelico’s Bobium Brawlers Is an AI-Based Creature and Card Battler, Coming Soon!

Studio Atelico’s Bobium Brawlers is an upcoming AI-based card and dice battler that the studio just unveiled. It’s their first game, and they plan to release it later this year. A new trailer and website are now available for players to get a sneak peek at what’s in store.

Studio Atelico’s AI-based Bobium Brawlers aims to revolutionise things

The game revolves around players inventing their own monsters and throwing them into strategic duels. With chance, planning, and creativity all colliding together, it ensures that each bout plays out differently from the last

Central to the setup is BEPPE, a sarcastic robot character who introduces players to Bobium. It’s a mysterious compound that you can transform into living creatures using a tightly limited 140-character description. Yep, when they said AI-based, they really meant it at that level.

So, basically, the game lets you play as scientists donning a lab coat and experimenting with the newly discovered element. BEPPE acts as both your guide and commentator. You shape Bobium into distinct monsters, deciding their names, descriptions, attacks, visual look, and overall style. The game will be using generative AI models that run directly on the device.

Studio Atelico is an AI-first games studio founded by former developers from Uber, Meta, and Sega. The team has been quite open about the fact that this (use of AI) approach is controversial. According to them, the generative models will stay within the game itself and adhere strictly to the established aesthetic style of Bobium Brawlers.

Earlier this week, the team hosted a PR event focused on the game. They used the occasion to explain how they’re attempting to adopt generative AI in what they consider ethical ways in game production.
