It’s been nearly half a year since Team Cherry released Hollow Knight: Silksong into the wild now, but the talented developers are still hard at work updating the Metroidvania.
The most recent update, available to test out via the public beta branch on Steam, is one that fans are especially excited about. Version 1.0.29740, as Team Cherry describes in its patch notes, brings a plethora of changes and tweaks to Silksong, with various fixes to issues folks have previously flagged and translations.
The real highlight, however, reads as follows in the post: “Allowed Silk Soar through top scene exits.”
Yes, this means Silk Soar can effectively be used to go through transitions – no more ceilings. It could make for some sick clips, and unsurprisingly, fans have already begun posting some online… literal hours after the update went live in beta.
As one person highlights in an online thread, “A new public beta/patch of Silksong is out, and now the Silk Soar has no limit, so you can see how insane the map of Silksong is in 30 seconds.”

Attached is a video showcasing the new and improved Silk Soar ability in action – but the most amusing part of it all has to be the comment section. There are excited reactions, sure, but there’s also hilarious speculation that this is just some sort of elaborate prank… You know, because Silksong.
One fan asks, “Is this a Silkpost or is it real?” They quickly discover that it is indeed responding again, “Holy fuck, it’s real.”
A separate Reddit post on the little update sees a fan exclaim, “They updated Silk Soar!!!” And, yes, you guessed it – the replies are full of others who can’t quite believe it’s true. “Wait, what did they change? I thought this was a Silkpost,” reads one.
Another echoes this same sentiment: “Uh-huh, yeah, wouldn’t that be nice – WAIT A MINUTE, IT’S NOT A SILKPOST?!” So do about a million others, but nope… not a Silkpost.
I love seeing the Silksong community in shambles, don’t you? I can’t wait to find out how it’ll look when Sea of Sorrow releases sometime this year.
9 years later, Hollow Knight’s lore just became even weirder thanks to a subtle update to the Metroidvania from Team Cherry
