‘GigaBash’ – A City-Destroying Arena Brawler Full of Huge Monsters
GigaBash lets four players become colossal kaiju creatures to wreck havoc on each other (and the city around them) using their unique devastating abilities.
Huge robots, massive crabs, big plants, gigantic sharks, and more round out a roster of varied monsters you can choose from. Each has special powers that make them feel wholly different, but all of them are going to have destructive effects on the city. You’ll stomp whole city blocks flat as you flail around with your arms, beams, and claws. As the game’s monsters (called Titans), that’s not going to be much of a concern. You’re here to cause trouble, after all. If you choose the side of the Titan-hunting mechas, you’re supposed to be handling this monster threat. It would be nice if there was still a city standing after you were done.
You’ll be forgiven for getting carried away, though. The game offers four player brawls and two-on-two matches, letting you get in your mayhem with a pal or all on your own. Locally or online, depending on how you want to play. So, when four monsters start duking it out, you can expect to get caught up in the chaos of it all. For those who just want to cause trouble on their own, there’s four single player campaigns to choose from, each of which delve into the story of their specific protagonist. You’re free to wreck cities and fight monsters in whatever style suits you best.
GigaBash does have some great strategies for playing well and many neat moves for each monster, but I found that all I cared about was seeing how big of a mess I could cause in the city. The game does an incredible job of capturing the devastation of a kaiju movie, and shows why those giant monsters are always trying to wreck cities. It’s just so darn fun to do. Can’t blame the monsters for enjoying it.
