‘ODDADA’ Collects Music Across Striking, Playful Worlds
ODDADA is a little musical puzzle toy; one where exploration lets you collect notes to playful tunes and you can create songs in a joyful world.
When it comes to music-based games, I tend to find that I am unable to make a sound that is delightful to the ears. I often feel this is down to me and my musical ability, so it’s fun to find a game that actually allows me to make music that sounds good. ODDADA is one such game, acting almost like a digital toy where you can make music without having any talent.
The game gives you tiny magical worlds that you can tinker around with. These worlds move, and as you pick up pieces and place them onto different points, you end up with sounds. You can remove a piece at any time as well, if you want to change the sound. These sounds are then added to your train, which also has different options on it to further mess with the sounds.
On the train, you can find a light, moon, and winter button, which changes the tones of the music you are making. There are other parts of your train that you can also add over time, which continues to tweak the tones that you are making. Once you have finished, each of the different scenes you have visited will keep the tones you have saved, becoming another part of your train to use for later.
At the end of your round, once you have explored all of the worlds, you can then create a mix tape of your sounds. This is done by turning the different sound segments on or off while they are being recorded for your tape. You can then play back to any of the different songs you have created before, as well.
ODDADA doesn’t feel like a challenging game or something that you can win. It’s a fun toy to play around with and make beautiful songs.
ODDADA is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
