‘Arctictopia’ Slides Ice Floes to Reunite With Your Cub
Your cub is lost on an ice floe in Arctictopia, and you’ll need to carefully slide your own frigid platform around the stage in order to save the poor little critter.
The Arctic Ocean is filled with melting ice, which makes it a terrible place to have lost your little one. They’re just sitting there, stranded, as killer whales roam the waters around them. As a clearly caring parent, you rush onto what little footing you can find to rescue them. Although the blazing sun above you is going to make that rescue very, very difficult.
Getting to the cub involves sliding around on the ice floes. These will only move up and down or left and right, and will slide until you bump into something. You’ve likely run into these ice block sliding puzzles if you’ve been playing games for any period of time. The kicker here is that the ice floes are steadily melting as you hop around them. Sometimes you’ll need to move back and forth across the floes to get to a better position to move, but if you use a block a little too much, you’ll find it dissolving under you. So, you don’t just have to watch your route, but you also need to figure out how to get to the end within a minimum of moves. That or you’ll find yourself taking an unintended swim.
Arctictopia continually throws new curves into play (like moving killer whales) to keep things interesting throughout, and will keep your mind busy for a good few hours (especially if you want to win in as few moves as possible). It’s delightfully adorable, which only makes its message of the disastrous effects of climate change on the habitat of these polar bears hit all the harder.
Arctictopia is available now on Steam.
