Nintendo mobile games reach huge record of downloads
Nintendo is working on a wealth of new mobile games with developer DeNa. After a successful number of Nintendo mobile games in the past, the company’s new Nintendo Systems firm will be crafting new titles for all to play.
This comes following a record number of downloads of Nintendo mobile games across Android and more. With sweeping changes coming to titles such as Mario Kart Tour; this could be great for the future of mobile gaming.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the Japanese gaming giant is doing extraordinarily well with mobile downloads. After years of reports claiming the company is underperforming, that seems to not be a worry for the company.
As of October 2022, Nintendo games on smartphones have racked up over 800 million downloads. Across over 160 countries, the developer’s mobile games have seen more downloads than unit sales of the company’s entire history of hardware.
“This figure, 800 million, is equivalent to the cumulative unit sales total of all Nintendo hardware since we launched Nintendo Entertainment System (Famicom) in 1983,” he said. “The mobile business has seen those same numbers in just the six and a half years since 2016, when we released our first app.”
Out of every one of Nintendo’s mobile releases, there has been one notable leader. The gacha game Fire Emblem Heroes is far and above the most successful game the Japanese company has released on mobile.
Earlier this year, the gacha game reached $1 billion dollars in revenue. As the most popular game from Nintendo, Heroes has been instrumental in not only bringing in revenue but also reviving interest in the mainline console series.
Unfortunately, a lot of Nintendo’s mobile releases have been rather hit or miss. However, we’re hoping that the company’s new batch of titles will be strong releases into the new generation.
