The greatness of the SNES | GamesYouLoved

Ah, the Super Nintendo!  (Or Super Famicom as it was known as in Japan) The glorious console that graced our living rooms in the 90s, bringing with it hours of entertainment and endless frustration as we tried to beat those darn levels of Mario or Donkey Kong. But why was it so great, you ask? Well, let me tell you, dear reader, in a way that will hopefully make you remember the good times so you can enjoy them still today!

SNES Mod1 Console Small Set

First off, let’s talk about the games. Oh, the games! From Mario to Zelda to Donkey Kong, the Super Nintendo had some of the most iconic games of all time. And who could forget the classic SNES game soundtracks? Every time that Mario theme song played, you knew it was time to kick some Koopa shell.

But it wasn’t just the games themselves that were great. It was the way they were presented on the console and the production quality. If you were in the US the  Super Nintendo had this weird gray and purple color scheme that somehow managed to be simultaneously ugly and charming. And let’s not forget about the controller. That thing was a masterpiece of button design.

You had your standard directional pad, your A, B, X, and Y buttons, and then those two weird buttons on the top that you never really knew what to do with. Yes we call them shoulder buttons!

But the Super Nintendo wasn’t just about the games and the controller. It was also about the memories. Think about it now. How many times did you and your friends huddle around the TV, passing the controller back and forth, trying to beat that one level in Super Mario World? Or how many times did you stay up late, trying to beat that one boss in Final Fantasy VI? Those are the kind of memories that last a lifetime.

And let’s not forget about the accessories. Who could forget the Super Scope? That thing was like a bazooka for your TV ans when you were a kid that was awesome! And what about the Super Game Boy? That little contraption let you play your Game Boy games on the big screen. It was like magic at the time!

But perhaps the greatest thing about the Super Nintendo was its ability to transport you to another world. When you turned on that console, you weren’t just playing a game. You were living in a world of mushrooms, and swords, and gorillas, and dinosaurs. It was like stepping into a whole new dimension, one where anything was possible.

The Super Nintendo was a console that was truly ahead of its time. It had great games, a weird color scheme (in the USA), a cool controller, and a whole lot of memories.

If you were lucky enough to have one back in the 90s, then you know what I’m talking about. And if you didn’t, well, you missed out on one of the greatest experiences of all time. But hey, at least you can still play all those classic games on your Switch now, right? 🙂
