Alternate Skyrim – Classes addon at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus
Adds character classes to Alternate Skyrim for the player to choose from at the start of the game. Each class has unique loot in the wasteland and starting items in the shack. The loot of each class is highly randomized, hopefully leading to a fresh experience every time you play a new character. Overall, this mod aims to improve the re-playabality of the fantastic Alternate Skyrim and aims to incentivizes exploring while providing a way of getting stuff that was previously almost impossible to find (like spells, misc supplies etc).
I tried my best not to go overboard with the amount of loot that this mod hands out. You will still have to search the wasteland for most of the stuff that you will be using during your playthrough, leaving the “survival” experience of Alternate Skyrim intact. You won’t find full sets of any kind of gear, just pieces that might help you or might not.
There are 8-9 classes to choose from, I will add more in a 2.0 version in the future if you guys provide me with feedback/suggestions for new classes. Pretty much everything loot related scales with levels, higher level players always have a chance of finding higher level loot.
– Archer –
Archers start the game with a guaranteed bow & arrow, some weak archery related equipment and potions/elixirs. From loot they can get a variety of scaling Marksman related supplies and equipment pieces.
– Assassin –
Assassin start with a dagger, some poisons and a couple pieces of Assassin related gear. From loot they may get enchanted daggers, poisons, sparsely some suitable armor pieces etc.
– Illusionist –
Illusion is a useless skill when almost everyone is undead you might wonder? Wrong! Illusionists start with the knowledge of affecting the undead with Illusion spells. Since this is a very powerful tool for the early game in Alternate Skyrim, their loot reflects this for balance reason. For loot, they can mainly get a lot of scrolls with some potions on the side. Overall, I think this class enables some really wacky builds that fit Alternate Skyrim really. Like, how often do you need to use scrolls for survival in regular Skyrim?
– Necromancer –
Necromancers may find stuff that helps them in the dark magics like raising and manipulating the dead, conjuring daedra & items, overall warlock & necromancer related loot that fit Alternate Skyrim.
– Paladin –
Paladins start with a guaranteed Sun Fire spell (from Dawnguard DLC) which is neglected in regular Skyrim, but quite powerful in Alternate Skyrim! They may also obtain enchanted Maces, Paladin related spells/potions etc. Since their starting options are so strong, their loot is a bit weaker to compensate.
– Sorcerer –
Sorcerers may find staves, spell books and sometimes even robes of all kinds of spell schools, and other Magic related misc stuff.
– Warrior –
Warriors can find armor pieces from a wide variety of heavy armors, scaling with level of course, and both 1h and 2h weapons, Health & Stamina pots etc.
Bonus “Classes”
– Beggar/hardcore –
If you want a challenge, you can just choose to not select any class. You can ignore the NPC at the start or decline out of the class select chat, and she will never help you. You start with rags.
– Murderer –
There’s a bit of a hidden 9th option. If you want, you can kill the NPC who lets you choose your class, before choosing any of them. In Alternate Skyrim everyone is killable. Going with this option is intended to be a balanced choice for a play-through. After killing her, you can loot a human heart from her. This is with the awesome Forbidden goods addon in mind by nimwraith. You can use the human heart to get a head start in your travels, but this leaves you completely at the mercy of the wasteland for the rest ofyour journey, with no help.
