Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox, at long last – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

Final Fantasy 14 is finally coming to Xbox, fulfilling the fantasies of thousands. The long-running MMORPG has been on PC, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 but has never graced Xbox in its decade+ existence, despite its immense success.

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, took to the stage at this year’s Final Fantasy Fan Fest in Las Vegas to announce that Final Fantasy 14 will launch on Xbox Series S/X in the Spring of 2024, complete with full crossplay and 4k graphics.

It’s an important moment because the Final Fantasy franchise has typically favoured Sony’s consoles, with the recently release Final Fantasy 16 being a prime example. In fact, Square Enix in general has been seemingly ignoring Microsoft’s platform. They’ve yet to release a single game on Xbox this year.

Various rumours suggest that things behind the scenes were not going well between Microsoft and Square Enix, while others suggested that Sony aggressively chased exclusivity deals.

But this may be changing. Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu said that other games would be heading to Xbox, and Phil Spencer replied that he was looking forward to partnering on future games. Phil also said that he views this as the start of working together with Square Enix.

I’m going to throw out some speculation here, but could this be Microsoft attempting to build a relationship because either themselves or Sony could potentially seek to acquire Square Enix? Given their long-standing relationship, Sony would seem like the most suitable buyer if Square Enix were willing to sell, but as we know, Microsoft has a lot of money to throw around.

Regardless, it’s great news for people who have been holding out how that Final Fantasy 14 would come to Xbox. I doubt they thought it would take so long, though.

The announcement also came alongside a new expansion for the game titled Dawntrail.
