Tomb Raider 1, 2 & 3 Remasters coming to console and PC in 2024 – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews
One of the most legendary series in gaming is receiving the remaster treatment. The first three Tomb Raiders are coming in a package titled Tomb Raider I, II, III Remaster next year. Though announced at Nintendo’s recent Nintendo Direct for the Switch, the package will also be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
Lara Croft will make her return on February 14, 2024, with both Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr working on the project. These aren’t remakes so the graphical overhaul doesn’t bring the first three games up to the standard of the modern Tomb Raider titles, but Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr have still given each game a visual boost. Sadly that means Lara Croft’s famous triangle boobs are now much rounder.
Never fear, though, because you swap between the original graphics and the updated versions at the tap of a button, a feature we’ve seen in a few other games over the years like the Day of the Tentacle remaster and the Halo: Combat Evolved remaster.
Aside from the graphics, the development team seems to have left everything exactly as it was. But that’s fine because it’s great for people to have easier access to these classic titles. The first game launched way back in 1996, with the two sequels popping up in 1997 and 1998. All three were a big part of my childhood so I’m glad to see them getting the remaster treatment, though from a gameplay perspective they probably don’t hold up too well.
As for modern day Tomb Raider, it’s doing pretty well. The newest games were pretty fun, the movie was boring and Netflix is apparently producing some sort of Tomb Raider animated series. Amusingly, Amazon is set to publish the new Tomb Raider game that Crystal Dynamics is working on as we speak, although the recent shakeups over at Embracer, who owns Crystal Dynamics, may have an impact on developement.
