Baldur’s Gate 3 is out now on Xbox! – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews
Baldur’s Gate 3 got shadow dropped onto the Xbox store during The Game Awards 2023 and is available to buy and play right now.
Developer Larian previously said they would announce the launch date during the show and they certainly delivered on that promise. While the game has been out on PC and PS5 for a while, the Xbox version was delayed due to issues with getting co-op working on the Xbox Series S, the weakest of Microsoft’s two current-gen machines. In the end, Microsoft made an exception for Larian in their rule that Series S and Series X must have feature parity, and allowed Larian to remove split-screen co-op from the Series S version in order to get the game on their console.
Larian also cleaned house at the award show with Baldur’s Gate 3 capturing the coveted Game of the Year along with two other trophies and a total of 8 nominations. Only Alan Wake 2 came close to that, taking home 3 trophies and and 8 nominations.
Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke said last month that, “Seeing our little ‘niche RPG’ make such waves is very motivating. I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries. I’m very excited about it.”
The only way Larian could have made the night any bigger would have been to announce that Baldur’s Gate 3 was on Game Pass as well, but given its insane success I imagine the price tag would have been humungous.
Only one question remains: how will Baldur’s Gate 3 perform on the Series S?
