Xbox would be “smart” to enlist Cliffy B’s help on Gears, says Cliffy B

Cliff Bleszinski, or Cliffy B, has been asked many times if he would return to the Gears of War franchise if Microsoft asked, and although he has no longer works in video games, he has publicly said that he’d be happy to consult on a reboot. Microsoft hasn’t taken Bleszinski up on the offer, however, and now “it’s time to move on.”

“I understand that Gears will always be an enormous part of my legacy. I appreciate and respect that,” Bleszinski said in a statement on X. “[Microsoft or The Coalition] haven’t hit me up. OK. It is what it is. If they were smart, they’d enlist me for my input because, just from a PR standpoint alone it would be gold.”

Along with the original Gears of War trilogy, Bleszinski has worked on many games during his career as a game developer, including the Unreal games, Bulletstorm, and Superhot, to name a few. Bleszinski’s final game was LawBreakers, which was developed by his own co-founded Boss Key Productions before it closed its doors in 2018.

“So, I moved on. Restaurants, Broadway, my memoir, and now, comics (and standup comedy!),” Bleszinski said. “As much as I appreciate your support and those who know me from my Gears work (I did do a lot more than that game series, for the record) it’s time to move on. I’m on a new journey. I have been for some time now.”

As for the continuation of the Gears franchise, we’re yet to learn where The Coalition will take us in the next installment. The developer has been hiring a fair bit lately, but for now, the only announced projects we can look forward to are the live-action movie and animated TV series from Netflix — we still hope Dave Batista will be cast as Marcus Fenix.
