Sea of Thieves is finally getting new weapons with Season 12

Sea of Thieves is getting new weapons throughout 2024, offering players new ways to battle their enemies when working through the Sea of Thieves achievements — yeah, one of the best games on Game Pass is about to get a whole lot better.

Sea of Thieves is getting new weapons and content in Seasons 12, 13, and 14

As revealed during Rare’s recent Sea of Thieves 2024 Preview Event, its popular adventure game will receive an influx of content during Season 12. Alongside a fresh Loadout system, network improvements, and the new Double-Barreled Pistol and Throwing Knives weapons, we’ll also get three new tools to wield: multi-cannonball Scattershot rounds, a friendly skeleton summoning Bone Caller, and the Windcaller, which can summon the power of the wind to give yourself a boost or push enemies away from you.

As for exploring the world, Season 12 will also introduce a host of traversal mechanics to the game in the form of zip lines in Outposts, skeleton forts, and many of the islands, as well as the ability to balance / slide on harpoon lines.

Looking later in the year, Season 13 will finally see Captain Flameheart return to Sea of Thieves, along with a reimagined form of his Burning Blade ship. You’ll find the gigantic ship packed with ten cannons and a forward-firing fireball launcher sailing around the world, waiting for a brave soul to take it on. Defeating the Burning Blade will give you the opportunity to board it and pledge yourself to Flameheart to gain control of the Burning Blade and its skeleton crew to become a World Event yourself. The infamous captain will have quests for you to embark on when commanding the Burning Blade, which will see you solving new puzzles, exploring temples for secrets of the ancients, and of course, finding plenty of new treasures including the Orb of Secrets, which can be used to increase the Burning Blade’s Tribute.

There is a caveat to your new position at the helm of the Burning Blade — you’re a World Event, so other players could be attempting to sink you for your treasure. Once the Burning Blade sinks, or you decide to turn in your hoard of treasures, you’ll lose the ship. Once it returns, you’ll then need to go about getting aboard once again.

Following that, Season 14 will introduce some mischievous new additions, including improved stealth mechanics for silent movement, crouching, and the ability to hide in chests. We’ll also get spring-loaded traps and a Grapple Gun, which can be used for traversal like the Harpoon, as well as a tool to pull items and players towards you. You will need to have ammo to use the Grapple Gun, though, so you’ll need to use it sparingly. Adding to our repertoire of weaponry, Rare will also add the multifunctional Blow Dart, which can be used to track players and ships, lure skeletons into a trap, and trigger sound effects to distract enemies.

There is a ton of content coming to Sea of Thieves, which finally got anti-cheat support earlier this month. Also coming to the popular adventure game is an influx of players, as Sea of Thieves has been dominating PS5’s preorder chart ahead of its launch on the platform on April 30.
