Ubisoft CEO confirms multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are coming – WGB

Ubisoft CEO  Yves Guillemot has confirmed that multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are in the works, but hasn’t said exactly which games in the long-running and massively popular series are getting the remake treatment.

Speaking in an interview conducted by Ubisoft itself, Yves was asked about the future of Assassin’s Creed and he responded by saying:  “Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”

He stopped short of specifying which games will be getting remade. In the past we’ve had reports about numerous potential remakes, but by far the most commonly mentioned is the beloved Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. Kotaku, for example, claimed in 2023 to have sources which had informed them that Black Flag was being remade, although it was still meant to be a few years out.

Yves went on to briefly discuss the future of the series.

“Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.”

To date, Ubisoft has never remade an Assassin’s Creed game, but they have remastered quite a few of them, such as the Ezio Collection and Assassin’s Creed 3. Of course, we can’t rule out that Yves is using the word remake interchangeably with remaster.

If we are talking about a true remake though, surely the original Assassin’s Creed would be a prime candidate. The 2007 game has managed to sell over 8 million copies in its life, but by today’s standards is pretty clumsy and clunky. Remade with some of the franchise’s modern quality of life features, it could do really well with the millions of people who have jumped onto the series in recent years and want to see where Assassin’s Creed began.
