Gearbox CEO says to expect more fantasy content for Borderlands

The Borderlands series has had a number of successful spin-offs and DLC add-ons. One of the most popular was Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, which brought the fantasy genre to the sci-fi world of Borderlands. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen any new Borderlands content, but Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford seems to be teasing something coming in the future.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Pitchford commented on the success of Assault on Dragon Keep, and why it might be an indicator of what to expect in future projects:

We had a bigger result with the first Wonderlands game than we did with the first Borderlands game, so that’s something we can build on. I love fantasy. That’s why we did the original Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2, because I love fantasy so much. So many of us at Gearbox love fantasy, and it gives us that kind of place to to mess around with that in the context of the Borderlands themes and universe. I think it’s reasonable for our fans to expect more there.

Pitchford also stated that fans would be “very, very happy” with their next video game project. However, he did not specify if that project would be part of the Borderlands franchise, or even if it would arrive on Switch.

The entire Borderlands saga, including the Tales From the Borderlands games, are currently available on the Switch eShop. With the movie coming out in a couple of weeks, there’s a chance news about new game entries pops up soon too. Stay tuned!
