Channel37 Announces The Last Caretaker, a Seafaring Survival Adventure
Veteran-led Finnish studio Channel37 has unveiled its debut title, The Last Caretaker, a first-person survival action-adventure game set in a vast and mysterious ocean world.
With the backing of Supercell, the studio is crafting a unique and immersive experience that explores themes of duty, legacy, and the resilience of humanity.
The Last Caretaker will launch into Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store this summer, with a console release planned for a later date (hopefully including Xbox!).
A World Submerged in Time
In The Last Caretaker, players awaken to a world transformed. An endless ocean stretches in every direction, dotted with the remnants of a bygone era. Machines hum with forgotten purpose, beacons flicker with fading signals, and remnants of human civilisation cling to existence amidst the waves.
As the Last Caretaker, a lone robot, you are tasked with navigating this submerged world, scavenging for knowledge, reactivating dormant systems, and ensuring the survival of humanity’s last hope – the embryos housed within the Seed Vaults, awaiting their journey to the stars.
More Than Just Survival
The Last Caretaker aims to be more than just another survival game. It’s a story-driven experience that explores the weight of responsibility and the challenges of rebuilding in a world that has been lost to time.
The game emphasises exploration, discovery, and the interconnectedness of the world, encouraging players to uncover the secrets hidden beneath the waves.
Connection, Exploration, Caretaking, and Resilience
The game is built on four core pillars:
- Connection: Connect with the remnants of the past, deciphering clues and piecing together the story of what happened to humanity.
- Exploration: Navigate the vast ocean, discover forgotten structures, and uncover hidden resources.
- Caretaking: Nurture the last human embryos, ensuring their survival and eventual journey to the stars.
- Resilience: Overcome challenges, defend against threats, and adapt to the ever-changing environment.
A Labour of Love
“At Channel37, we’re not just making a game. We’re building something deeply personal, something that reflects decades of experience and passion,” said Antti Ilvessuo, Co-Founder of Channel37 and the genius behind the Trials series. “Our team has been creating games for over 25 years, and with the backing of Supercell, we’ve had the freedom to craft something truly new. This is not just another survival game; it’s a story about duty, legacy, and the burden of carrying humanity’s last hope.”
He continued, “The Last Caretaker is our love letter to exploration, mystery, and resilience. We’ve built a world that reacts, evolves, and hides secrets in plain sight. This is a game we believe in, and we can’t wait to share it with players.”
