After playing through the initial cutscene – you will arrive at the Hanwell Mental Institute. As you try to enter the Institute – you will need to bring your notebook with you. Get back to your car and pick up the notepad.

Go back to the door now and enter. You will see its now 8:00 PM. Speak to Julia, the receptionist.

Take out your notebook, exhaust your dialogue options with Julia, go to the Tasks tab, and ask her to let you enter the Institute. After exhausting those options, take out your notebook again and go to Topics and click on “Building not abandoned?”

After this conversation, back to the notepad and click on “Process of reopening”. She will now mention a Dr. Miller, switch to the People tab and click on “Dr. Miller”.

Go back to Topics after this and click “Process of Reopening” again. This will give you the option “Patients being relocated”.  Exhaust the option by clicking it again. Next click “A complete stranger”. Eventually she will let you in – go back to Tasks and click ‘Remembering my Past”.

You can also click “My Condition” in Topics. But generally, you can now end this conversation. Next, click the corner of the room, under the stairs to check the visiting room there.

You can examine the glasses on the table. Check everything else around the room and turn around. Click on the door and then the calendar on the wall.

You will see a flashback to June 6th. Exit the room and head across to the other side. Turn to the right and head through the archways.

This is the administrative area. Three paths here – take the one to the left and enter the office of Dr. Ebersbacher.

Check the points of interest around the room and then pick up the doctor’s journal from the table – next to the documentation of the workers.

Open the desk drawer and you will find a cassette tape recorder. You will need to find a cassette.  Turn around and check the filing cabinet.

Nothing in the first two drawers. But in the bottom drawer – you will find a a document relating to the doctor.

The top drawer is locked and there is a combination lock. There is a second filing cabinet with a similar lock. Move around and head to the painting and the filing cabinet behind the table.

Check the painting and open the filing cabinet. Head further into this wing and check the door for the office of Dr. Hawthorne. The door is locked so head further in and enter the Janitor’s room. Turn the switch on for the room, next to the door, and check the clipboard on the wall. There is a trash bag here that you need to tear apart, but you are missing the required tool. Take note of the record left on the chair on the right side of the room.

Exit the room and the wing to head towards the Archives. Open the record player on the table and pick up the letter opener from the drawer.

Check the patient’s register and the safe. Exit the room and check the Washing Closet. Next enter the room, next to Anthony J Angel’s certificate.

In this room, check the shelves and the books. Check the table next – another record here. Take note of the tracklist.

Check the notes on the table. Exit the room and head back to the Janitor’s closet and use the letter opener on the trash bag.

Inside is a crumpled-up paper.

Exit the room now.
