Beast Of Reincarnation reveals stunning new gameplay and behind-the-scenes footage from Game Freak’s upcoming action RPG, launching Summer 2026.

Game Freak’s bold step beyond familiar territory is gathering serious momentum. Beast Of Reincarnation, the upcoming action RPG from the Pokémon creator, has returned to the spotlight with a striking new gameplay trailer and an in-depth behind-the-scenes video, unveiled during the latest Xbox Showcase.

Set to launch in Summer 2026, Beast Of Reincarnation is shaping up to be one of Game Freak’s most ambitious original projects yet – blending brutal combat, haunting world design, and an emotionally driven companion system.

The game will arrive day one on Xbox Game Pass and will also launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and PlayStation 5. You’ll be able to make the most of Xbox Play Anywhere too.

A Deeper Look At Game Freak’s Darkest World Yet

The newly released footage pulls back the curtain on the creative process behind Beast Of Reincarnation, with director Kota Furushima and the Game Freak team discussing the inspirations that shaped its bleak, post-apocalyptic vision of Japan.

Set in the year 4026, the world has been ravaged by a parasitic plant known as blight, wiping out much of humanity and twisting what remains. Players step into the role of Emma, a solitary survivor cursed as a blightborn, who is accompanied throughout her journey by a loyal canine companion, Koo.

Rather than focusing purely on spectacle, the behind-the-scenes video highlights the studio’s emphasis on emotional connection, environmental storytelling, and a world that is as unsettling as it is beautiful.

One Person, One Dog, One Relentless Journey

At the heart of Beast Of Reincarnation is its distinctive one-person, one-dog action RPG structure. Combat blends real-time action with command-based strategy, requiring players to coordinate Emma’s attacks while issuing tactical instructions to Koo during intense encounters.

As Emma and her companion battle grotesque enemies born of the blight, they absorb their strength, gradually evolving and unlocking new abilities. This progression system is designed to reinforce the bond between character and companion, making survival feel earned rather than granted.

Their journey ultimately leads westward, towards a final confrontation with the mysterious Beast Of Reincarnation itself – the entity believed to be the source of all blight.

What The Latest Reveal Confirms

While much of Beast Of Reincarnation remains shrouded in mystery, the latest reveal has firmly outlined its direction:

  • A post-apocalyptic Japan devastated by a parasitic blight
  • Real-time combat fused with command-based companion mechanics
  • A deeply bonded protagonist-and-companion dynamic
  • A focus on absorbing enemy power to evolve over time
  • A world designed to feel beautiful, hostile, and constantly shifting

The newly released trailer showcases fluid combat, unsettling enemy designs, and environments that shift from eerie calm to outright brutality.

A Familiar Name, A Very Different Game

We first covered Beast Of Reincarnation back in June 2025, when Game Freak initially unveiled the project and confirmed its day-one arrival on Xbox Game Pass. Even then, it was clear this was a significant departure for the studio – and this latest showing only reinforces that message.

If anything, Beast Of Reincarnation looks set to challenge expectations of what a Game Freak and Fictions title can be, trading bright familiarity for a darker, more introspective journey through a world on the brink.

With some months to go before release, Beast Of Reincarnation is already shaping up as one of the most intriguing action RPGs on the horizon.
