Retro Gaming – Why It’s More Than Just a Hobby
A hobby: something we do in our leisure time for pleasure. For me, that hobby is retro gaming — not collecting, not emulating, but playing. In this video, I share what retro gaming truly means to me, how it shaped my journey, and why I’ve chosen to experience it the way I did as a child.
I’m not a collector chasing rare titles. I’m a gamer building a library — one game at a time, playing each thoroughly, savouring the experience. I talk about why I stepped away from emulation, how having access to everything led me to play nothing, and why I returned to physical media and original hardware.
From the joy of hunting down a game in a charity shop or waiting for it to arrive in the post, to the ritual of opening the case, reading the manual, and committing to play — this is my way of reconnecting with the past. It’s not just nostalgia. It’s about finally playing the games I couldn’t as a child, and preserving the experience in the most authentic way I can.
