R-Type Dimensions III—a “…spectacular, fully-reimagined evolution of a legendary shoot ’em up”—will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 on May 19th…digitally. Release of the physical edition has been moved to August 11th, 2026 due to “ongoing global manufacturing and logistics constraints,” but buyers won’t have to wait that long to play it.
To thank the community for its continued supports, ININ Games has announced that pre-order customers can request complimentary digital access keys, allowing them to start playing up to five days ahead of launch. Platform-specific conditions apply. We reached out for clarification on those conditions for the Switch, and were told, “We need to charge 9,99 per key on Nintendo Platforms as we need to buy them. For the big edition we will cover the costs.” As for the timing of that key, “People will get an Email on the 15th with instruction and can redeem the game instantly when they received the key.”
The Collector’s Edition has been moved to a winter 2026 release window. It may be worth waiting for, though, as the collectible figure included in this edition is now being crafted by Wētā Workshop for “…a premium-quality centrepiece for fans and collectors.”
And yes, the Switch 2 physical release will include the full game (with all of the most recent updates) on the card.
