No Man’s Sky turns 10 in August and we couldn’t be happier that we still get the chance to work on it every day. It is testament to the team’s continued passion and ideas, but also to the sandbox nature of the game that it continues to readily welcome even some of their wilder ideas.
Already in 2026 we’ve introduced Pokémon-style pet battling (from last month’s Xeno Arena update) and gravity-gun-facilitated refuse collection (from February’s Remnant)! BAFTA-winning stuff, clearly! Today we are bringing our attention back to space combat with our third update of the year – THE SWARM.

Through the ages, epic space battles have been the absolute mainstay of sci-fi across films, tv shows, books and games and we’re always looking for ways to amp up the space-borne combat.
A new danger has appeared in the No Man’s Sky universe. Something terrible hangs in the sky: a huge, foreboding Hive-like ship, unlike anything we’ve seen before. It has nigh-on impenetrable defences, not least a swarm of smaller and nimbler battle drones which must be neutralised to get close enough to target its primary weapon systems, notably the biggest laser cannon our universe has ever witnessed.

It will take a combined community effort to take it down, but the Traveller soul is fragmented into three; all three groups are competing for glory, but will also need to co-operate and strategise to take down this existential threat to the universe.

Epic and chaotic space battles await for the bravest and nimblest space pilots who dare to take on this faceless but formidable technological terror which has mysteriously appeared. Fully decked out S-Class ships assemble!

Those less adept at space combat can also contribute to the effort to overcome this common threat. There are a range of ways to contribute: from digging up corrupted debris, to facing off against miniature planetary swarms, to sabotaging the swarm’s network. The secrets of the Hive’s origins and weaknesses can be uncovered and shared with your fellow rebels by heading down to nearby planets and investigating and pillaging the remains of crashed drones. Another utility for the newly acquired Gravitino Coil!

Your contribution to the face-off with the Hive is being logged for all to see in both the Anomaly and the Galactic Atlas. Travellers will want to keep a constant eye on which squad is contributing the most to the war effort: the most valuable team will be memorialised in the Space Anomaly for all time.

There are enviable spoils for those who square up to the Hive: an exclusive multi-tool, jetpack and exosuit- themed souvenirs of your brave sacrifice.
The prospect of all existing Travellers converging on a single area of the universe to take on hundreds of spiralling battle drones, against the backdrop of an ominous, laser-firing death machine, makes for some breath-taking and frenetic action, the likes of which space has never seen.
After the relative calm of Remnant and the whimsy of Xeno Arena, the urgency just got ramped up.
Our journey continues.

No Man’s Sky comes complete with all 29 major updates up to and including Worlds Part I.
Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man’s Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.
In No Man’s Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you’ll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before – and perhaps never will again.
Embark on an epic voyage
At the centre of the galaxy lies a irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you’ll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.
Find your own destiny
Your voyage through No Man’s Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.
Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you’ll reap huge rewards.
Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.
Share your journey
The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own…
