Well this is fantastic news for the weekend, as homebrew developer AnthonyFlack has launched Bomb Jack GX, an incredible new arcade port specifically enhanced for the Amstrad CPC Plus and GX4000 console. This fresh release streamlines the experience compared to its predecessor, Bomb Jack Extra Sugar, by stripping away the lesser-used extra modes in favor of a pure, focused recreation of the original arcade classic. By targeting the unique hardware capabilities of the Amstrad Plus line and the GX4000, the game delivers massive technical improvements over standard CPC versions with rich visuals, fluid performance persistent highscores!
The game is fully compatible for the Amstrad Plus computer and the GX4000 console. Players looking for the definitive experience are highly encouraged to use a physical Pico-GX cartridge, which enables automatic high-score saving directly to the hardware. For emulation enthusiasts, persistent high scores are supported via the ACE-DL emulator. To utilize this function, players must download the latest version of the emulator and ensure the “Pico-GX save mechanism” is activated in the plugin manager.
- Rich Visuals: Displays up to 50 vibrant colours simultaneously on screen.
- Fluid Performance: Features dozens of moving hardware sprites running at a silky-smooth, arcade-faithful 50Hz.
- Fine-Tuned Difficulty: The underlying gameplay engine is derived directly from Extra Sugar, but incorporates critical balancing tweaks to mirror the unforgiving challenge of the arcade original.
- Coded using RASM assembler and ACE-DL by Roudoudou, Arkos Tracker by Targhan, and ZX0 data compression by Einar Saukas.
