Sea of Stars is the 14th highest rated game this year & has sold 250,000 copies – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

Sea of Stars might just be a little indie game from Sabotage Studios but it’s making big waves. It launched on August 29th and has been buoyed by massive critical acclaim and strong sales.

On review aggregator site Opencritic, Sea of Stars is currently sitting as the 14th highest rated game of the year with a rating of 89. That impressive score ties it with another indie gem, Dave the Diver, as well as the Dead Space remake.

Jon Bailes of Gamesradar wrote a glowing review for Sea of Stars, awarding it 4.5 stars out of 5: “It’s a joy and a relief to realise that Sabotage hasn’t merely mimicked classic ’90s JRPG, but committed to understanding what makes them tick. Its nostalgia is neither gratuitous nor cynical, instead working disparate references together with original ideas into a coherent whole.”

Lyle Carr of God is a Geek also praised the game, sending it on its with with a whopping 10/10 score: “Sea of Stars is easily one of the best RPGs that I have ever played, taking notes from those that came before it and refining every aspect of the genre. The combat is engaging from start to finish, the characters are delightfully charming and the game looks and sounds incredible. It’s a busy time for video games, but there’s simply no excuse for you not to play this landmark RPG as soon as possible.”

Sea of Stars launched on both GamePass and Playstation Plus Extra which naturally did raise questions about how well it would sell. Those concerns turned out to be rather unfounded, however, as just a day after the game launched Sabotage Studios announced it had already sold 100,000 copies. Sabotage Tweeted out how thankful they were.

But the good news keeps on coming because today Sabotage Studio revealed that Sea of Stars has sold 250,000 copies. According to Sabotage, that’s more than their sales projects for the entire rest of the year.

Congrats, Sabotage, you guys surely deserve all the success you are getting. And this just serves as proof that if a game is good people will buy it.
