Anomaly Agent

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

Anomaly Agent is an action-platformer drenched in synthwave music and fluid, acrobatic combat. As Agent 70, it’s up to you to stop anomalies in this futuristic, cyberpunk world and battle through mobs of enemies.

It’s won acclaim for its smooth beat ’em up gameplay as well as its humorous and stylish world.

Go Mecha Ball

Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S

Why choose between being a mech and a ball when you can just do both? Go Mecha Ball is a twin-stick shooter with roguelite elements that gives you a variety of destructive abilities and lets you go ham in dynamic arena playgrounds.

Go Mecha Ball has won acclaim for its fast-paced, action-packed arcade gameplay, its challenge, and its strategic element.

Lil’ Guardsman

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

Lil’ Guardsman takes the decade-old formula of Lucas Pope’s Papers, Please; and applies it to a wacky fantasy set-up in which the guardsman you play is a 12-year-old. This unlikely hero will have to determine who to let into the kingdom, from humans to elves to goblins to cyclopes.

Lil’ Guardsman has acquired a lot of praise for its humorous concept and its deduction-based gameplay.

The Cub

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

The Cub is from the developers of Golf Club Nostalgia, and surprisingly, this cinematic platformer is set in the same universe as that game. Highly reminiscent of The Jungle Book in both theme and gameplay, The Cub has you controlling a kid in an ecological post-apocalypse while escaping capture, solving environmental puzzles, and listening to some cool, cool beats from Radio Nostalgia (broadcasted from Mars, of course).

The Cub has been praised for its visuals, its charm, and its radio-style soundtrack.

Turnip Boy Robs A Bank

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

Best Indie Games of 2024

Turnip Boy Robs a Bank brings back the indie legend Turnip Boy (infamous for committing tax evasions), this time putting him onto a new crime and a whole new genre. While his original adventure was distinctly Zelda-flavoured, this one has him shooting the bank up in a roguelite heist.

Turnip Boy Robs A Bank has been praised for its offbeat and charming humor, as well as its twin-stick shooting gameplay.

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell

Best Indie Games of 2024

Platforms: PC

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is the latest (and last) in the Momodora series of Metroidvania games, where you’ll play as High Priestess Momo, who is on a divine mission to save the villagers of Koho from being destroyed by demons.

The game has been praised for its pixel art visuals, its lean game design, and its well-balanced gameplay.

The Universim

Platforms: PC

The Universim injects new life into the god game genre by having you control the sentient “nuggets” from the Stone Age to the age of space exploration. In this strategic city builder, you’ll use your godly powers to guide your followers (“nuggets”) across the ages while dealing with the ecosystem and… the consequences.

The Universim has received acclaim for its simulation systems and its high replayability thanks to its procedurally generated worlds.
