Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree will be its only DLC but sequel is still a possibility

If you’ve wrapped up all the Elden Ring, you might be eagerly awaiting the game’s upcoming expansion — but it seems Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree will be its only DLC. However, all hope is not lost, as it seems FromSoftware isn’t completely averse to the possibility of another full Elden Ring game. Considering Elden Ring is easily one of the best Xbox RPGs, we can only hope…

Shadow of the Erdtree will be Elden Ring’s only DLC

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is due to arrive on June 21, and it will apparently be the “first and last DLC.” This is according to FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki who, as spotted by GamesRadar, spoke to Chinese outlet Zhihu to say that the team has “no plans to add more content to Elden Ring” (thanks, IGN).

However, this might even be a good thing. While Miyazaki didn’t confirm an Elden Ring sequel is on the way, he did explain that a single DLC allowed the team to keep things on a large scale in a big world, rather than breaking this exploration experience up into smaller parts. In the same vein, Miyazaki explained that FromSoftware’s games leave things open enough to allow for another sequel in the same world.

It’s clear Elden Ring players can’t wait for new content of any kind, however, as even the Shadow of the Erdtree release date announcement was enough to see an initial 78% spike in Xbox players.
