2025 Brings a Cubic Odyssey

Some of us just can’t resist games that let us explore. It seems most of these titles fall into the sci-fi genre, but then this makes sense because it lends better to giving us a ton of different worlds to progress through. The problem with titles like this is that it’s always going to be a balancing act. Nobody is going to want to spend hours flying around a galaxy with nothing in it on the simple proviso that it’s big. On the other hand, we don’t want a universe-size number of fetch quests and fluff just to give the impression that we’ve got lots to do. This being said, when the devs get it right we’ve got a hell of an adventure ahead of us. Hoping to bring us along for a brand-new ride is Cubic Odyssey, the game we’ll be looking at today.

Coming from the folk at Atypical Games and published by Gaijin Entertainment, Cubic Odyssey is an adventure game that will begin just after we crash land on the surface of a distant planet. From here we’ll be expected to mine resources, refine materials, and build everything from tools and outposts to vehicles and ultimately the starships that will be the gateway to the free exploration of the galaxy.

In Cubic Odyssey Every star that can be seen in the night sky sits at the center of a star system filled with explorable planets. Each of these worlds contains its own ecosystem and shifting day and night cycles. They will also contain cities bustling with NPCs, pirate outposts, and dangerous ruins waiting to be discovered and explored. The ultimate goal of this massive quest will be to stop the Red Darkness, a galactic infection that mutates wildlife, consumes planets, and threatens all living beings.

Cubic Odyssey is said to feature seamless ground, air, and space travel. As the player, you’ll experience warp jumps between star systems and cruise at a blazing speed between planets. On a more terrestrial note, you’ll be able to traverse alien landscapes on speeders and, of course, explore underground ruins and other hidden areas on foot. This game is going to be as versatile as you need it to be.

Those of you who don’t like to play alone will be covered nicely by Cubic Odyssey. You’ll be able to join forces with other adventurers in an optional co-op mode. Here you will pool your skills in an attempt to defeat massive enemies, initiate orbital strikes, or build huge co-operative mega structures. Those looking for ways to enjoy this title with friends should have plenty of fun adventures ahead of them.

“We intend to build a boundless open world where every planet, every system, and every moment is yours to shape”, – says Andrei Lopata, CEO of Bucharest-based Atypical Games.

Cubic Odyssey looks like it’s going to be a mammoth amount of fun for those of you who just can’t resist the urge to have far too much to do all of the time. If you have your sites set on the inky blackness of outer space this title is expected to appear on our PC, PS5, and Xbox S/X contraptions at some point later this year. Keep your eyes peeled for more info on this very interesting-sounding game as we get closer to release.
