During this week’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo showcased a ton about the Switch 2, and that included “Switch 2 Edition” games. These are titles available on Switch 1, but upgraded with new features. These can be purchased as individual Switch 2 games, or you can simply buy an upgrade for your Switch 1 title at a cheaper price.
Those who have Switch 1 games that are interested in some of the Switch 2 Editions revealed thus far have had one question. If you snag the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack, does that mean you won’t be able to play the original game on Switch anymore? Thankfully that’s not the case.
Nintendo’s official website assuaged fears by sharing this statement:
“After you upgrade, the original Nintendo Switch game can still be played on Nintendo Switch, though the features and content of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.”
Long story short, you can play the title on the original Switch just like always, but you can also access the new features of the Switch 2 Edition on your Switch 2 as well. In other words, the best of both worlds!
