Xbox Is Said To Be Having “very, very, very big discussions ” About Exclusivity – WGB

Whenever a new boss takes over almost everything is up for discussion and that seems to be the case at Xbox as Asha Sharma settles into her new role as the queen of Xbox. Earlier today, we learned changes may be coming to Game Pass, now it seems even their multiplatform approach could be changed.

Over on the latest episode of the XB2 podcast, Jez Corden – writer for Windows Central – talked about how there are currently “very, very, very big discussions about the exclusivity stuff going right now,” internally at Microsoft.

Corden doesn’t offer too much details on exactly what he has been hearing. He mentions that it the team realise how much money would be left on the table if they went back down the exclusivity road, and that’s a big thing to turn away from. But he also mentions that just like at Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft is aware that the multiplatform approach damages the prestige of their brand.

Personally, I don’t think too much of Corden’s words. Like I said before, when a new boss steps in, absolutely everything is up for discussion, so I’m not surprised that they are least addressing the topic of exclusivity vs multiplatform once again.

Do I think they might do a U-turn? Who knows these days. Xbox and Microsoft have already spun 180-degrees about a 100 times at this point. With that said, walking back the multiplatform approach would be a tough sell given the success they’ve found. However, they could put an emphasis on timed exclusivity instead as a compromise.
