One of my favorite gaming laptops has been MIA for weeks, now it’s back with a deal I wasn’t expecting until Prime Day

The Lenovo Legion 5 has been consistently ranked among the best gaming laptops I’ve tested since I reviewed it last year. It’s only problem right now? It’s been missing from the shelves for a good few weeks now, dropped from Best Buy’s lineup in favor of the newer 2026 model. That was until Newegg stepped up today, with an offer I thought I’d have to wait until Prime Day gaming laptop deals to be able to shout about.

The OLED RTX 5060 configuration is back on the shelves for $1,249.99 right now. That’s a modest $150 discount over the original listing of $1,399.99 – but that saving hides a value-packed final rig. With the way gaming laptop prices are going right now, it’s incredibly difficult to find the kinds of rates I was seeing earlier in the year. Finding an RTX 5060 with 16GB RAM and an OLED panel at this price? That’s rare these days.

The Legion 5 is the best value gaming laptop I’ve tested to date, combining that OLED panel otherwise only seen on high-end machines with a solid price tag and sturdy RTX 5060 performance. In truth, this is the deal I evaluate most other mid-range gaming laptop offers around, when it’s available, that is.

I had a similar spec on my test bench last year, though my model was running an older Intel i7-13650HX processor. There’s not going to be a major departure from my benchmark scores, though – this is still going to keep up with far more expensive RTX 5060 configurations like the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 10 and Alienware 16X Aurora.

In full native resolution, the Lenovo Legion 5 keeps pace with these beefier rigs, posting easily playable numbers in high settings across Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Total War: Three Kingdoms, and Horizon Zero Dawn: Remastered. This is a lower mid-range mobile GPU, though, so just note that you’ll likely need to drop down to 1080p to maintain 60fps in more demanding runs like Cyberpunk 2077.

Elsewhere, the chassis keeps things low-key enough to slot nicely into a backpack without entering super-slim territory that could impact performance. That OLED screen plays out beautifully in low light conditions, but it’s an understandably cheaper panel than the likes of the Razer Blade 16 and Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 – be prepared for a little extra glare in brighter environments.
