A Journey Behind The Curtains
While exploring The Spiral, Low and Alone find themselves separated, forcing Low to venture alone into the darkest corners of The Carnevale. That path leads beyond the spotlight and behind the curtains, into an area known simply as The Backstage.
It’s here that players will encounter The Puppeteer, a sinister new Resident who stalks the living canvas in search of her next masterpiece. As with every memorable villain in the Little Nightmares universe, survival is likely to depend on staying hidden, keeping moving, and resisting the urge to look back.
The show, after all, must go on.
A New Light In The Darkness
Low won’t be completely alone on this latest adventure. The Backstage introduces Dime, a mysterious child equipped with a distinctive Torch Hat. In a world where darkness often hides unspeakable dangers, that small source of light could prove invaluable.
Together, Low and Dime must navigate new threats, solve environmental challenges and uncover a path towards rescuing Alone from The Puppeteer’s grasp.
As fans of the series will expect, however, trust is often a dangerous thing in The Nowhere.
Expanding The Spiral
The Backstage marks the beginning of a wider programme of post-launch content for Little Nightmares III.
Included as part of the Secrets of the Spiral Expansion Pass, this first chapter opens up new corners of the game’s twisted universe, with further content already confirmed to arrive later this year.
It’s also another opportunity for players to spend more time in the beautifully unsettling world that helped make Little Nightmares one of gaming’s most distinctive horror franchises.
When we reviewed Little Nightmares III, we awarded it a 4/5 score, saying: “But does Little Nightmares III push the series onto another level? Well, in terms of the addition of co-op play and the ability to use combat, it certainly does. However, the journey through these new worlds, while visually distinct, does cover some similar thematic beats, and at times, it can feel like a well-trodden path. But it was a path I was more than happy to tread again, and enough time has passed since Little Nightmares II to make another entry in the series feel welcome.“
Little Nightmares III – The Backstage is available now for £6.69 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One (via the Xbox Store), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Just remember: some curtains are closed for a reason.
