Ragnarok writer teases even more God of War to come – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

Santa Monica senior writer Orion Walker has teased that there’s even more God of War to come following the release of the free Valhalla expansion.

During this year’s Game Awards, Sony Santa Monica dropped a surprising reveal for God of War: Ragnarok in the form of a free add-on titled Valhalla which launched on December 12 for anyone who owns the game.

The new add-on was pitched as a rogue-like where Kratos and Mimir would battle through enemies while growing in power. Now that it is out, though, players have discovered that Valhalla is much more than just a series of fights – it actually acts as an epilogue for the game, or as some people have been putting it, a therapy session for Kratos. In total, there’s some 60 minutes of cutscenes to enjoy, an impressive amount for a free piece of content.

I won’t spoil anything about what occurs, but suffice to say the DLC delves into Kratos’ past, wraps up story threads from the main game and ends on a pretty bonkers note.

With players already seeing the credits roll, sensior writer Orion Walker took to X to hint at more God of War to come, either in the form of DLC or a whole new game.

“You really think the *credits* are the end of the story? C’mon. C’mon. now” he said,

It’s hardly surprising that Sony would like to continue the rebooted God of War saga in one form or another. 2018’s God of War has sold over 23 million copies, and as of November of this year God of War: Ragnarok had sold 15 million.

The question is where to go next. Again, without spoiling anything, the DLC does provide a very fitting end for Kratos’ story, while also still leaving the door open for even more adventures in either the form of DLC or a whole new game starring everyone’s favourite gruff dad God. Then there’s Atreus who could also be given his own game with Kratos taking more of a background role, though the reception to Atreus has been more mixed. I’m sure Santa Monica is more than capable of handling that, though.

So what do you guys think? Are we going to get a new game starring Kratos, will we swap to Atreus or should God of War maybe take a break and come back after a hiatus?
