TA Playlist game for January 2024 announced
The theme for January’s TA Playlist poll was ‘New Beginnings’– games that were made as an attempt to reboot an older series. The inspiration came from an idea that was proposed by MorseyBaby in the TA Playlist Game Suggestion Thread, so thanks for the suggestion, and for those who discussed in the forums.
The nominees for the month included DmC: Devil May Cry, King’s Quest, and Shadow Warrior, but one game snuck out to an early lead and stole the show. The winner, with nearly 40% of the total vote, was Thief!
Developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix, Thief was released for both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One back in February 2014. While not necessarily a critical or commercial success, fans of the pure stealth genre were excited for the revival of the cult classic series from the late 90s and early 2000s.
Garrett, the Master Thief, steps from the shadows into the City, a treacherous place ruled by a tyrannical Baron and his brutal Watch. When the citizens rise in bloody revolution, Garrett’s thieving skills are all he can trust as he walks a fine line between politics and the people, revealing a darker secret that threatens to tear his world apart.
Thief currently holds a TA user rating of 3.28 out of 5.00 for the Xbox One version and 3.36/5.00 for the Xbox 360 stack. Both versions have 37 achievements with an estimated completion time of around 40-50 hours, although the Thief walkthrough by Allgorhythm will take you on an optimized path through the game to get your completion much more quickly. So far, around 210,000 tracked gamers have played one version or the other, with around 2% (~3,500 gamers) earning the completion. Thief was given out as part of the Games With Gold program way back when, but if you missed out, the Xbox One version is currently on sale for the next few days!
Here’s the full breakdown of the votes. This was an interesting poll to watch because while the vote totals increased steadily over the past week and a half, the percentages never really wavered after the first couple of hours. Thief very quickly hit about 38% of the vote and never budged from there.
Unlocking at least one achievement in either version of Thief will advance your TA Playlist badge count, and you can also get credit by commenting in the Spoiler and Spoiler-free threads that will be generated on January 1. Join in the discussion on the TA Playlist Hub to tell us your thoughts.
