Hideki Kamiya wants to revive canceled Xbox exclusive Scalebound

It’s that time of year again where news about PlatinumGames’ canceled Xbox exclusive Scalebound makes the rounds once more, with former PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya saying that he’d love to make Scalebound again one day.

  • The action-RPG was in development for Xbox One before Microsoft canceled it in 2017
  • Kamiya has been quoted as saying, “I’d love to make it again someday”

Despite leaving PlatinumGames back in 2023 and heading up new studio Clovers Inc, it seems Kamiya just can’t get the canceled Xbox exclusive Scalebound out of his head. A new post from the studio shows Kamiya “reminiscing about the development of Scalebound” and even quotes the legendary developer as saying that he’d “love to make it again someday.”

Kamiya himself also reposted the tweet, adding the following message for Xbox boss Phil Spencer, “Let’s do it, Phil!”

Development on Scalebound began in 2013 at PlatinumGames with Kamiya as its director. The fantasy action-RPG was supposed to be an Xbox and PC exclusive published by Microsoft, but in 2017, the game was canceled.

In recent years we’ve seen plenty of chatter about Scalebound. Back in 2020, PlatinumGames Atsushi Inaba said he and Platinum “would love to return to” the canceled game. In an interview with IGN Japan from 2022, Kamiya said, “We did a lot of work on it, and it’s no use Microsoft keeping the game in its current form, so we’d like to do something about it. Phil! Let’s do it together!”

Do you think Scalebound will ever be resurrected? Let us know your thoughts about the Xbox action-RPG down in the comments.
