Retronauts Episode 755: The Magic of GBA Soundtracks

Dissonance fans, rise up.

This week, Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance—the middle child of the company’s handheld family—turns 25. We don’t talk about the GBA as often as its elder sibling or the wildly popular DS line that followed, but holding what looked like a portable Super Nintendo felt revolutionary at the time.

That said, our focus on this episode of Retronauts is not graphics but sound, arguably a weakpoint of the GBA although we (host Nadia Oxford and guests Jeremy Parish, Diamond Feit, and Victor Hunter) offer evidence to the contrary. I hope you like chiptunes because that’s you’ll hear when you press play.

Description: Nadia Oxford, Jeremy Parish, Diamond Feit, and Victor Hunter talk up the Game Boy Advance’s under-sung music hardware.
