Help battle by cooking in ‘Abyss Kitchen’ – Indie Games Plus

Abyss Kitchen is a survival action game where you aren’t really doing any of the main fighting. Instead, you are gathering ingredients in order to cook up dishes, that help those who are actually in on the action. With that said, you are still on the battle field and do have a bow, so sometimes you do need to help!

Being a member of the team, everyone needs to play at their strengths. The rest of your team will be fighting off monsters and killing creatures who want to bring harm to you. Your goal, however, is to fight long blades of grass and break down the enemies that you have destroyed, so that you can then cook up some tasty treats to keep everyone alive! Abyss Kitchen feels quite unique in the fact that you can use your range weapon to fight off enemies, but you’ll mostly be breaking down their bodies and quickly whipping up food.

Staying behind the rest of your team, you need to manage collecting foodstuff from the various bits of the world, and then using them to create food. This food can help with HP Recovery, attack power, and more – so you need to decide what’s best for the moment! Sometimes, your team does need you and you need to join them to create a formation, otherwise the enemies might be to powerful and could defeat you.

Abyss Kitchen feels like a unique survival game, with a fun cooking twist. I like that you don’t have to just fight your way through these levels and are instead trying to keep track of what is needed by the rest of your party. It’s just an interesting take on a very well-played genre.

I got the chance to play Abyss Kitchen at Hyper Japan, but you can purchase the game on Steam.
