Microsoft Gaming Is Dead, Xbox Gaming Is Back Says New Report – WGB

Despite only being at Xbox for a few short weeks, new CEO Asha Sharma is already making big changes. This week, the company reduced to the price of Game Pass – at the cost of CoD no longer launching on the service on day 1. Now, the branding of Xbox is shifting yet again. The old is out, and the even older is back in.

When Microsoft bought Activision-Blizzard, they announced Microsoft Gaming as the new umbrella branding for their game studios. Phil Spencer became the CEO of Microsoft Gaming.

But now, a report from The Verge claims that a new town-hall meeting was held for the team, wherein Asha Sharma told them that they will be going back to Xbox Gaming.

“Xbox needs to be our identity,” said Sharma, according to sources who talked to The Verge.

Admittedly, this is simply a name change, but it’s also hopefully indicative of the route that Asha Sharma is taking with the company longterm. Let’s face it, Xbox will probably never be once it once was, but it could still become something impressive in its own right.

Apparently, Sharma’s new “Return to Xbox” slogan is now plastered across the team’s walls, along with the phrases “Great games” and “Future of Play.”

Of course, this is all early days and we’ve Xbox pull about a billion course corrects, drastic direction changes, plan overhauls and overall fuckups, so probably best not to hold our breath.
